Sourav Ganguly set to return
India’s best cricket captain Sourav Ganuly is set to return to the national test side. The team currently touring South Africa is in the middle of a serious crisis. The coach Greg has lashed out on the Members of the Indian Parliment for their comments on the tema’s poor performance for the past 6 months. Under this condition the current captain Dravid has injured his finger and will have to sit out of the ODI series. This lacklusture performance has invoked the team management to recall Sourav Ganguly for the test series. Ganguly has earned his place by performing well in the domestic arena and leading the east zone time flawlessly.
Good news for Broadband users
Broadband internet communication is to get a “tremendous boost” next year, according to the Communications and Information Technology Minister, Dayanidhi Maran. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited and Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited would soon come out with attractive offers and the broadband policies would be rewritten. He sad that 256kbps would become a thing of the past and gave a hint that the new bandwidth will be unlimited. Further announcements will be made on January 1,2007
Wal-Mart enters India
The world’s biggest retailer, U.S. based Wal-Mart, has tied up with Sunil Mittal’s Bharti Enterprises to make a direct entry into India’s retailing sector. The two companies entered into a memorandum of understanding on Monday to explore business opportunities in retailing.
The Bharti group Chairman, Sunil Mittal, told newspersons here that, “it is a partnership of equals. Big investments are in the pipeline.” The two companies were expected to open stores by August with the plan being for Bharti to handle the front end of the retailing business, while Wal-Mart would take care of the supply chain, the logistics and other back-end operations.
The entry of Wal-Mart into the Indian market comes close on the heels of Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries having launched its entry into the retailing sector.Wal-Mart is the largest retailing company in the world with revenues of about $320 billion. Wal-Mart also has a procurement centre in India and plans to source products worth about $2 billion this year. This new venture will also provide employment to about 10 million people here in India
